Super Boat Crowns National Champions in Clearwater, Florida

Team Cintron Wins and Excites Fans on Beach

KEY WEST, Fla. (October 5, 2011) – Super Boat International culminated the yearlong national racing season in Clearwater this past Sunday as Team Cintron took top honors in the Super Boat Unlimited class. This year’s 3rd Annual Bright House Super Boat National Championships was a spectacular event with over 30 boats and “chamber of commerce” weather. SBI continues to produce amazing races and is doing its part for communities and local economies.

“We think this year’s event is going to be a $12 million to $15 million economic impact just for this weekend,” said race co-founder Brian Aungst. Super Boat International President, John Carbonell, comments about the success of the event. “Frank [Chivas] and Brian have done a great job in preparing for our Super Boat National Championships and have built a great team in Clearwater. They did a wonderful job of promoting the event as evident by the thousands of spectator boats and fans on the beach during the race. We are very pleased cities like Clearwater recognize the financial impact Super Boat Racing has on local communities. We are already looking forward to next year’s National Championship event.”

Team Cintron driver and Clearwater resident, Hugh Fuller, also commented about the success of the event. “This was a great race and everyone has done a supurb job putting this together. It’s also nice to have the race in my own back yard… I don’t have to drive far to get in the boat. Everyone on our team did an awesome job today getting the boat ready… and it ran great out there today.”

This year’s event was projected to have record crowds of over 100,000 spectators and Chivas reported from the Coast Guard that there was an estimated 5500 spectator boats lining the race course.

Also crowned National Champion in the Super Cat class was Team STIHL, as Sunday’s race was a winner take-all kind for that class. “I’m real happy with how the boat ran today and very pleased with the outcome. Team Loriblu ran a great race and they were with us all day long. But in the end, we crossed the finish line first and that’s what counts,” commented team owner and driver JR Noble.

Other race-day winners include: GEICO Caveman (Superboat Vee Extreme), Miss GEICO (Turbine Class), Team Warpaint (Superboat 750), Page Motorsports (Superboat 850), Watch Your Back (Superboat Vee Limited & P3), Hulk (Superboat Stock), Twisted Metal Motorsports (P1), Zipp Express (P2) & Team Velocity (P4).
