Clearwater Beach, Race Fans and Super Boat Teams Win
Top Cat Super Heat Wins Clearwater National Championships with Comeback Style
CLEARWATER, FL (October 5, 2010) – This year Super Boat Unlimited winner, Super Heat, brought the heat… the chamber brought the weather and Super Boat International brought the boats for one of the best National Championship events ever. Over 30 powerboats competed in this year’s national race with record crowds and a record number of spectator boats. More than 5200 vessels, ranging from 10’ to 110’, lined the 2.5-mile beachfront with little room to spare.
“It’s another picture perfect day in Clearwater. Obviously, all the racers were prepared for a dynamite day and they were going at it full tilt,” commented Frank Hibbard, Mayor of the City of Clearwater. “People have asked what’s different from year one and year two. It’s like a fine wine… we’re just getting better and we plan to keep doing that. It’s our sense of pride that we are so strongly committed to this event and what it brings to our community. We have the new marina that was an excellent location to showcase all these amazing machines. We sincerely appreciate all the teams who come here to support our event and their fans who follow them. Our community is very enamored with this event and looks forward to it each year.”
Super Boat teams took to the course off Pier 60 and dazzled the record crowds. Super Heat owner, Chris Cox, was probably the happiest of all. After taking the early part of the season off, Cox was determined to make it to Clearwater. “There’s no place like Clearwater, so it was deliberate on our part to make sure we made this venue [race]. There is nothing like running around the track and seeing thousands of boats outlining it for you. Clearwater is a phenomenal event and hats off to John Carbonell of Super Boat and Frank Chivas, the local producer, for putting on an awesome event.”
Event promoter, Frank Chivas appreciates the praise and thankyous’ for putting on a great event, but comments, “It’s John Carbonell and the drivers and teams who make this a great event. They are truly international… they come from everywhere and put on a great show. We are strongly committed for the next 10 years, if John will have us.”
John Carbonell, founder of Super Boat International, didn’t slow-up for a second and said “Fine… see you for the next 10 years.” Carbonell excited about Clearwater continued, “Events usually take 3-5 years to mature and get rolling well but it looks like Frank, Brian (Aungst Sr.) and the mayor [Frank Hibbard] got it done in two years. I’m looking forward to seeing what they have planned for next year. I bet it’s big!”
Other National Championship event winners were Team Warpaint (Superboat 750), Team Amsoil (Super Cat), Watch Your Back (Super Vee Limited), Team Fluid Sealing Products (Super Stock), Twisted Metal (P1), Hawaiian Tropic (P2), Simmons (P4), Team Velocity (P5), Global Warmer (Superboat Vee Unlimited) and 2Cocks Racing (Superboat Vee Extreme).
